The Next CaSt
The goal of the Next Cast initiative is to positively impact youth that come from diverse and challenging circumstances. Many have also encountered a variety of social and economic barriers.
The program is designed to reach York Region and Greater Toronto Area youth, from the ages 12-18 years old. We focus on connections and relationship-building to encourage our youth to have the necessary tools and resources to succeed in the future.
We aim to create opportunities for at-risk youth to have experiences they normally would not have access to. Increased access to healthy outdoor education and activities will allow for fresh perspectives and new relationships to create positive individual impact and community connections.
Ontario Coast Angling focuses on five pillar criteria that include: low-income households, single-parent households, communities with higher crime rates, victims of crime or abuse and lower educational performance.
Getting out on the Great Lakes with Ontario Coast Angling hopes to improve real-world skills and pro-social behaviours that include:
-
self-confidence
-
environmental and sustainability awareness
-
increased social skills and abilities
-
increased youth engagement with supports
-
teamwork and relationship building
Ontario Coast Angling also provides opportunities to learn about our Great Lakes ecosystems, environmental issues, history, and recreation activities, including water safety and proper fishing techniques.
